Place
This photo series was lead by a prompt to document ‘place’ in a sense that focused on the term as more than a geographic location. I chose to depict the Iowa State University campus focusing on the places that depict the true spirit of Iowa State and the locations that had the largest impact on myself over the course of my education.
Portrait
I decided to look at ‘self portrait’ in an unconventional way. Instead of focusing solely on an actual image of myself I chose to think about myself in terms of what makes up who I am. Along this process I came to the conclusion that those I surround myself with have made me into the person I am today. Therefore in creating my self portrait I juxtaposed images of friends and family alongside or on top of an image of me. In doing so I hope to convey that myself, like many, although one unique individual has been impacted by numerous individuals along the way of life.
Family
The following photo montage portrays a narrative based on my Grandmother’s life and its parallels to my own. The photographs depict her four collegiate years and beyond, with particular emphasis on her involvement on campus and her relationship with my Grandfather. The compositions were created through the use of digital photography, scanned film and print photography, and digital manipulation.
